INFO:
'We're infantilised': the hypocrisy of the Lib Dems and Greens trying to save British Steel Many of the long-time advocates of net-zero were suddenly rallying for the government to take control of British Steel over the weekend. The plant at Scunthorpe, which was nearly shut down, is Britain's last major steelmaking plant. It faced rising energy costs and was haemorrhaging hundreds of millions of pounds a year – but without the plant, the UK would be the only country in the G7 without the capacity to make steel from scratch. How much of a problem is this – and are we facing bigger problems related to energy more generally? Lord Hannan, author and columnist, was one of only two members of the House of Lords to speak against the government's decision. He calls the Lib Dems and the Greens 'infantilised', as they are now crying 'crocodile tears' about potential job losses at Scunthorpe while refusing to reckon with the net-zero policies which led to such high energy costs in the first place.
